Starting off our new Creator Legend profile series with BrutallStatic!

This week, we start a new weekly series, introducing you to our dozens of EverQuest Legends Creators! We wanted to offer some insights into who they are and what makes them tick. First up is BrutallStatic (Brutall to his friends), a creator best known for their excellent EQL tutorial video series on YouTube.
How did you get started in content creation?
I led a guild (Static) in World of Warcraft from 2005 to 2015, and in 2013 I decided to give streaming on Twitch a go after a guild member showed me the ropes. Before long, I was making YouTube videos about being a guild leader, streaming our raids, and within a year, I turned it into a full-time gig.
Why EQL?
I played EverQuest from 1999-2004, like a lot of people, and when I heard EverQuest Legends was hitting the market, I knew I had to play.
To be blunt, I'm just not interested in raiding schedules and being dependent on other individuals for my success in a game right now. The fact that I can log on, do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and how I want to do it, is absolute perfection.
On top of that, if I want to spend time with the community on any given day, I can. It's the best of both worlds.
What was the most surprising thing you learned about EQL?
I've been pleasantly surprised to know that so many people are in the same boat when it comes to wanting a game they can play on their own, while still being a part of a huge, lively community. When I'm streaming and I read day after day how much joy EQL is bringing to the lives of its player base, it's magical.
I regularly say that no game is perfect, including EQL, but it does do a lot right, and knowing the best is yet to come (Kunark! Velious!) is incredible.
What is your favorite zone in EQL?
It will not come as a surprise to anyone who has seen my content, it's Befallen. Yes, I know, it's the most cliché response, but I was in Befallen before it became the meme that it is today!
Of course, everyone knows the loot and mote potential in the zone is second to none, but Befallen was such a huge part of my original EverQuest experience. I could list a dozen other zones, obviously, but Befallen is as good as it gets for me.
What is your “go-to” or favorite loadout?
During the pre-order beta, another content creator, ChazInOmaha, encouraged me to give MNK/PAL/ENC a shot. I was extremely reluctant at first, thinking it'd be subpar at best, but obviously I was dead wrong in that assumption.
I mean, what's not to love? It has incredible defensive capabilities. It has the best melee weapons in the game. It has charm (don't nerf it), AoE mez (don't nerf it), slow, pacify, and so on and so forth. It may not be the strongest loadout in the game in terms of raw numbers, but it is undeniably potent and a heck of a lot of fun.
What is your ONE piece of advice for a player just starting out in EQL?
From a purely mechanical position, a lot of people find success in picking a tank, a healer, and a slower in their initial build (and one of those roles often doubles as a DPS, too). That could be something like a SHD/CLR/ENC, or a WAR/SHM/NEC, and so on. However, if you want to throw caution to the wind and try something because it sounds fun, go for it!
There's so much to discover and enjoy about various loadouts and builds in this game, and even if something isn't "good," you can swap another class in, level it up, and get back to work any time you want. In other words, just have fun. More cliché words, I know, but seriously, just have fun.
This game doesn't need to be min/maxed to death, or played "the right way"; it just needs to be whatever kind of experience you're looking for it to be, and you're the one who determines that.
Also, go watch my YouTube guides, they’re full of sound advice.
Anything else you wish to add?
I just want to say thank you to anyone who has kept me company these last few months on Twitch/YouTube. I don't feel that I deserve so much love and support from so many selfless and generous people, but by golly, do I appreciate it. I'm so proud to be a part of the EQL community, and I cannot wait to see how things take shape in the months to come leading to Kunark. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey, truly!
